Happy 2015, everyone! Here are two types of funding opportunities for scientists, both of which will help advance animal welfare, albeit in very different ways:
- The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Foundation is inviting grant proposals in three areas that improve the diagnosis, treatment, understanding, or prevention of disease in animals. Funds will be awarded for clinical studies focused on feline chronic renal disease (up to $50,000 for up to 2 years), oncology within any animal species (up to $25,000 for up to 2 years), and in partnership with animal health company Zoetis, small animal respiratory disease (up to $20,000 for up to 2 years). Further information on funding guidelines and eligibility requirements for each of these three grant opportunities is available on ACVIMF’s “Call for Proposals” page. The application deadline for all three programs is March 9, 2015.
- The International Foundation for Ethical Research is providing fellowship grants of up to $15,000 for up to three years for graduate students whose course of study most effectively advances alternative methodologies to the use of animals in research, testing, and education. See the complete Request for Proposals (RFP) for further information on funding guidelines and eligibility requirements. The application deadline is April 20, 2015.
