New Season, New Job

Dog leaping through autumn leavesFall is my favorite season…a time of golden leaves, apples and pumpkins ripe for picking, crisp breezes, comfy sweaters, and a fresh start for students of all ages. My husband and I chose fall for our wedding, and now I have yet another reason to love the season: at the beginning of this month, I became Senior Grants Manager at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Many people know of the ASPCA’s long history—it is the oldest animal welfare organization in the United States—and of its continuing success as one of the largest U.S. charities, but what’s less widely known is the fact that the ASPCA is also the second-largest animal welfare grantmaker in the U.S. Last year, the ASPCA awarded over $15 million in 1,270 grants to more than 740 shelters, municipal and governmental agencies, rescue groups, sanctuaries, and other animal welfare organizations nationwide.

It’s an incredible privilege to work at an organization whose mission resonates with me so profoundly and, after being on the fundraising side for six years, to be part of a team that provides much-needed funding for animal welfare efforts across the country. Even now, almost three weeks into my new position, I sometimes find it hard to believe I’m not dreaming!

Among many other things, this opportunity is giving me renewed inspiration to maintain and continue developing my blog (which, by the way, still represents only my own personal viewpoints as an individual), so stay tuned…

See the joyful pooch above? That image (whose origins are, alas, completely unknown to me) perfectly captures how I feel right now.
